Two things (you don’t get this reference yet :P)
1. Read this on something with a good sound system and if possible, boost the subwoofer. Headphones will make a difference as well.
2. Since it’s a long entry containing a lot of vids, I have no delusions (or hard feelings if not) that everyone’s going to feel like playing all. Thus, a quick cheat for anyone wishing just to check what is this about and whether the others are worth bothering: the vid that presents and sells the most effectively what I want to present and sell is marked red in the text. The caveat regarding good sound still applies, though.

Two things (you don’t get this reference yet :P)
1. Czytajcie to na czymś z dobrymi głośnikami i jeśli macie możliwość, mocno podbijcie subwoofer. Słuchawki też zrobią różnicę.

Dobra, sprawdzam. )

Round 2, because we agreed with [livejournal.com profile] hamsterwoman we need more categories. ;) On my part, I keep the same loose rules: doesn’t have to be in the title, as long as it’s somewhere in there, as the song’s theme.

Infected via [livejournal.com profile] hamsterwoman and hastily thrown together before my lack of time/tiredness/the heap of other things in need of doing could catch up to me. So, there’s ten themes, which resulted in a list of songs that often wouldn’t even make it to ‘My Favs’ list in other circumstances, but overall they span from “love ‘em” to “they fit and I don’t hate them”. If I don’t tell the language and you don’t get it, assume it’s Polish. I didn’t bother with full translations, but if you want any, the offer is there. (And I’m rather hopeful someone’ll pick it. XD )

(Because it looks like five-minutes entries tend to get more response than ones I put actual work into. Perhaps the latter are too long?)

Some time ago we – [livejournal.com profile] hamsterwoman and me – shared some faved songs, which lead us to a thought it would be interesting to see what people in a country X (or even better from different places in the world) think is “the music from the country Y” and compare it to the actual opinion of people from Y. And we decided it deserves a meme. You're welcome to join the game, wherever you come from! The more participants, the more interesting results will be! And let's have it clear up front: don't you dare thinking “It's not for me, I'm not 'native' or 'ethnic' or whatever, and you all have the Beatles and whatnot up to here already”. There's no country and no person without a culture and what is transparent to you, can be exotic for others. You never know. That's actually the point of the meme – things that feel totally cliché and worn to you, can be totally fresh and cool for people from the world's other end. Or not, but this is also what we want to find out. ;)

I keep hesitating if this post can be interesting for you, yet on the other hand it keeps following me, so… *shrug* I guess I just have to see.

Have you ever tried to compare different versions of shanties? And the term ‘shanties’ is in this case broad as a whale jaw… The recipe is simple: you take an English or French shanty, or Irish folk, or actually anything coming from old blessed times without ©, you write the lyrics in your language of choice, and if the song struggles and cries for help, pointing that it was never a shanty in the first place, you pour into the lyrics some rum or throw a captain here and there. And voila, you’ve got a shanty. Polish shanty, in this particular case. And since a.) listening to them is fun, and b.) translating is fun… OK, OK, at least for me. Anyway, you had it coming. Oh, come on! could be worse! I could sing them for you! Fortunately, there are some limits of my sadism, so the worst what is waiting for you is recycled music and very bad translations. Consider yourself warned. But if you’re brave enough, I promise a lot of fun. :)

You remember that song which I keep badgering you with? It's a delight to inform you that one kind soul didn't run off screaming but enjoyed the song enough to take an interest in fixing what I made a mess of, that is the translation of the lyrics. Therefore, I have a honour and great pleasure to present you her fine work! Read more )

Some time ago I posted this song and I thought it a one-time affair, but translating is fun, and when I have it done already, why not to post it? Read more )
