Supernatural 11.01-11.06 (eng)

Okay, let’s go with catching up the season 11. I’m not sure if I really want, so in a way I’m back at the point I was a year and half ago: may the show speak for itself.

11.01 Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire

My, an aesthetic beginning – Dean among the wildflowers. And Sam looks not bad at last. Seems like someone in the production reads what some say on LJ ([livejournal.com profile] ash48, I’m looking at you ;). So far the Darkness is an exceptionally beneficent power, at least in the visual department – she composes one Winchester into herbal arrangements and gives a haircut to the other… and all this in a single rush through the Impala. Who knows what she can achieve in the middle of the season. Meanwhile, maybe it’s worth to show her Castiel?

OK, wildflowers notwithstanding, I still need to ask, how did Sam know which way to go? And up to a mile at that? Some mystic brotherly fluids?

The title card looks like a lack of title card, and the hitherto action looks like a lack of script, but at least the Winchesters are working together. I’m afraid to breathe, to not break it.

Dean, are you going to stitch it on her together with this shirt of her? With the same thread, why not… I see the SPNverse keeps working according to the algorithm “Clothes are ingrown into people, unless --> check if not a Winchester or Castiel --> check if the fanservice screentime limit is not reached yet --> in case none of these occurs, see the first point --> in case the common sense wheezes for mercy, finish it off, bury it and see the first point”.

Since we’re at it, could someone mercifully finish off Castiel’s thread, please? Preferably both with him. If even my usual “maybe this time” doesn’t kick in, this says something!

“Killing instead saving” vs “saving before killing”. Yup, someone definitely reads what the fandom says. Good dialogue and good course. Now, what are we betting for that it’ll get forgotten in a few episodes at best?

The role of the season (okay, after one episode, I know) is Ms. Crowley. And it’s me saying this, who usually doesn’t like vessel switches. And after Mark Sheppard at that. I almost regret it wasn’t to be permanent… Maybe she’ll come back occasionally? :3

Ugh, I really thought we’re done with the Mark of Cain for good… Come on, a third season with this? The whole previous one made it already too long.

11.02 Form and Void

Psychology alternative to this degree is a novelty even for SPN… „Aww, we unexpectedly are burdened with a totally strange child, how lovely! Oh, you have bleed through your uniform? Of course I noticed, grandmas always notice, but in the spirit of the Grandma WisdomTM I’ll tactfully pass over it in silence, and besides I’m too busy with Cooing Over Little Darling, and everything will be good anyway!” Yeah, What-Was-Her-Name lost her soul, but her grandma had to be a cyborg from the very start, no other possibility. O_____O

And since we’re at What-Was-Her-Name, it looked like she was going to be a long-term recurring character, so in the end I breathed with relief, because she was more wooden than this wardrobe* Dean landed in. I owe Crowley another tea. Apparently this show makes good cops no more often than once in a few seasons… By the way, did she get some superpowers in exchange for her soul, or what? Because if she didn’t, the recent seasons prove that in order to give Dean Winchester a good trashing one needs to be 1. a mortal woman, and 2. approximately half his size. The same Dean Winchester who wipes Cain’s kitchen with demons and slays a vampire nest solo.
* And the wardrobe was very wooden. So much wooden that I was sure Crowley would get a stake from this debris pile instead a blade.**
** Speaking of which, angel blades are really cheap these days. Dean leaves his own in Crowley, who doesn’t even take it when fleeing…

And speaking of him, so far the idea of the season is Crowley as an exorcist recommended full knowingly by the Church. ♥ And how he looks in the collar must be one of reasons he’s attached to this vessel so much.

Wow, good entrance. And another good role of the season, besides Ms. Crowley. Also, the best reaper in the canon. I want more Billie. That is, as long as she won’t end as quick as Ms. Crowley and What-Was-Her-Name… or won’t turn out a disappointment. After all, Castiel had an entrance, too. :P By the way, it looks like Death’s death has no consequences after all, except one mildly pissed reaper…

Hmm… The list on the guide board started with “Medical imaging” and probably it says something about me that I was surprised, seeing it was rather about the “Chapel”…

And if I have to die, I've made my peace with that, but . . . Please. Dean deserves better. Dean deserves a life.
Again… Wasn’t it already used up six seasons ago? And from that time, wasn’t it being worked out again and again at least once in a season, up to once in an episode?

In dialogues, so far this season jumps from oh-so-tragic soap operas to sitcoms and back. I like the sitcom pieces better. How about keeping just them and shortening episodes to twenty minutes? It wouldn’t harm the plot too much, there’s not much to harming in the first place…

Oh, Hannah, sniff… Okay, admittedly it’s not a very much wet sniff. Actually I regret more that I don’t regret her more, than I regret her herself. Maybe I should make a headcanon for my private use that she never showed up again after 10.07…

I’ve just realized why Sam fitted well into the college: his productivity is best just before deadline.

So, we have a Girl From Hell More Hellish Than Hell, how not exciting… Haven’t I seen this already? Actually, will I get in this season anything I haven’t seen yet? Besides Crowley in the collar.

11.03 The Bad Seed

”You know where you are? What's the date?”
”Earth. Several billion years from the beginning.”

I like the angelic calendar. It’s not easy to be late with it. :>

Nice take-over with pass, Dean. In case of a crisis in the hunting business you both have a career waiting in organized purse stealing. :]

Hiding from an attacker in a dark place with a single entrance, checked. And there I thought we haven’t really been in a horror show for at least eight or nine seasons…

Dean. In a dark alley. Looking for his friend. Who needs help ASAP. Emits Neanderthal mating noises. Toward random women. Clearly very much not interested ones.
*shakes the stupefaction off a little*
Who wrote it, the same ones who wrote the Dean at the college campus last year?
*comes back*
Not the same. But a pair, too. Should I start skipping every episode written in pairs? o_O

(Nope, there’s no Good Omens here anywhere, got it? In the whole season. THERE IS NONE.)
(Sorry, a long-year fan here and I just don’t think it plays well, in the SPN canon, the way they do it.)
(Even if I’m okay with fanfiction doing the same.)

11.04 Baby

♥♥♥ !!! Best episode from time immemorial !!! ♥♥♥

Okay, actually from time quite memorable. To be precise, from 6.04 Weekend at Bobby’s. I guess some had it with 10.05 Fan Fiction. Well, I have it now. Even in spite of how the Impala looked like in the end, sniff. What? Oh, right, these two too. Who cares, they’re used to that, they’re going to be as new in the next episode. But for the Impala I sniff. And the scene with those two silly chicks was totally terrifying. The one who lost her purse, served her right, grrr. And those two big idiots never got to know. The Impala couldn’t even tell them…

This, she couldn’t. I had great expectations for this episode, and I vaguely hoped she’d be more, hmm, alive? Maybe-aware-maybe-not? In a word, that she’d be a character, not just a location. I think I’m a little disappointed… But only with this. The whole thing had an idea in it. It had a script. And even dialogues, though I wonder how much of this was improvised. Also, great directing, especially in the first Dean vs the monster scene, but also the dialogue scene between Sam’s sleeps.

We are home.
I don’t want to keep watching, because next episodes are going to be like those before this one… :(

Then again, this episode couldn’t be possible in this form without those two hundred preceding it, even if less good.

11.05 Thin Lizzie

Yay, long time no ghosty episode. Recently it’s about once a season, isn’t it? And even longer time no haunted Victorian mansion.

”Dean, we don't...want to kill him. We want to save people, remember?”
”Right, your new rules.”

What ‘your’ and what ‘new’? Wasn’t it you who ten years ago reminded Sam what the family business is, Dean? (Btw, “saving before killing” is still not forgotten this season, or at least keeps being reminded now and then. I’m saying it as quiet as possible to not scare it away.)

Do both of you really never try the doorknob before the picklocks?

I’m really sorry for Len… :(

Hmpf, okay, so it’s still no ghosty episode. I’m not exactly happy with what was there instead.

11.06 Our Little World

Well well, Castiel can surprise once in a time as long as one doesn’t expect anything of him. I certainly didn’t expect for the demon tablet thread to be solved so easy…

Ei, so this throne fans are squealing over isn’t even placed in the Hell? Good. I prefer the Hell unshown over disappointing. :)

You know what’s really creepy here? It’s not a teen devouring souls. It’s a teen going full Lolita on Dean. o______o

Uh-huh, secrets are rising and the public… er, the Winchester trust is decreasing. I knew it was too good to last long.

~*~

General notions on this season:
1. I’m overusing this emoji --> O__O
2. We’ve got (okay, I’ve got) the second best episode of the canon.
Conclusions: hmm…

Oh another show I'm so behind D:
At some point I just stopped caring what happens to them, maybe they resurrected each other just one too many times. But so happy to hear there are nice episodes to look for still :)

*groan* Tell me about it... When it comes to shows, I'm behind everything. Like, a decade behind. At least.

At some point I just stopped caring what happens to them
I'm still in this only for single good scenes, not even whole episodes. *g* I pick at plot holes and such more for fun of it than of any real care. Then again, I've never really been that much comitted a fan for this show. It's more fun than love for me.

Hee. Your recaps were really amusing to me. I was even giggling. Sam good at college for his work under pressure indeed.

I like Supernatural but I'm not super obsessed about it, so I'm not looking for perfection, just entertainment. I only started watching two years ago (I've seen it all on Netflix now). I think I have a lower standard for it so I don't get too picky or overly critical. But I do enjoy good episodes like Baby, which was wonderful, or Fan Fiction. Sometimes I do squee at a good scene.

Glad it was fun! I have previous recaps here (http://aletheiafelinea.livejournal.com/119484.html), in case you ever want more. Your attitude toward the show matches mine, I see. I consider myself a fan, but not as much as I could be, and most certainly not as much as many hardcore fans.

I was disappointed we didn't have a ghost episode in Tin Lizzie too. Unfortunately their actual ghost episode wasn't very satisfying for me either. Go figure :P I enjoyed the rest though :D

Maybe there's a good ghost episode coming, we never know. :)

There is always hope! Especially with so many writers ;)

Yay, you're back!!! You're back? Tell me you're back. :)

Hope you're having a lovely holiday season. xox
It just got improved. ;D Same for you, best (if late) wishes and all!

I'm not really up to date with the 11 season, but not really quitting yet either. Still, I can't promise weekly updates on SPN. I hope you don't mind.

[identity profile] lyryk.livejournal.com 2015-12-29 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
Well I'm not not back? *g*

That's cool; I'm not sure if I want to talk about Show on a weekly basis either. It's just... confusing but unquittable for me haha.

Apparently for the creators it's this way as well. *g*
