Rectober 2015 - Discworld

Welcome to the first rect post in Rectober! :)
Now, let’s make things sorted out.
FANARTS
Don’t forget that in most cases I pick just one work, and usually there’s more in the given artist gallery.
Some time ago I have made a multifandom list with a choice of my favorite fanarts. It has also Discworld in it.
Now to the art I haven’t included in the above list.
Ankh-Morpork by RomanDubina. Be careful walking The Shades.
Discworld: The Librarian and Discworld: The Luggage by kinkajoomotion have great colouring and composition. And The Librarian is almost handsome there!
Cheery Littlebottom by Shire-Rock, being charming.
Discworld fan art - Sword of Passione by zazB aka Guillaume Bonnet. And thousand elephants! Wait, no, I think they didn’t fit in.
Discworld sketches by Luzzerante. If I rec a fanart with an OC character, it must be more than good.
Bingeley-Bingeley-Birthday by Nimloth87. I love the design of Vimes’ breastplate.
Brownjobs by TerminAitor. The City Watch in a less typical graphic interpretation.
Dijabringabeeralong Pub by rhianmated. What is says on the tin.
Sergeant Detritus Choice by Karelias aka Tomek Karelus. It says nothing of the price, though.
[Ankh-Morpork backgrounds] by disasterscenario. Now I want a whole comic so badly…
Illustrations by Sia-chan for “The Wee Free Men”, a study project.
cocoa by faQy. Just another day on the Pseudopolis Yard.
NOT FAN BUT STILL ART
Not that official artists aren’t allowed to be fans too. ;)
French editions’ of Discworld cover art by Marc Simonetti.
Illustrations for Discworld’s basically everything by Stephen Player.
Ms Cake Suspects a Psychic Purturbation by Les Edwards.
Errol Goodbody of Flynn by John Howe.
Covers by David Wyatt. (Unfortunately he has no ‘Pratchett’ section; you just need to browse.)
And you all certainly know Paul Kidby, but perhaps you haven’t seen those artworks yet. ;)
OTHER DISCWORLD THINGS
Floorplan of the Pseudopolis Yard on The Watch House, the City Watch fansite.
As any fan knows, reading order is a serious branch of studies in this fandom. You probably already know the fanguide, but maybe you haven’t seen yet the recently published official guide.
Discworld Emporium official shop in Google Street view! The interior too!
Discworld Map – Sto Plains 3 by SM9T8
Fanmade miniature library of the Unseen University. Photos (in one album with other miniatures; keep clicking left) and blog.

Date: 2015-10-04 20:10 (UTC)I have a question for you: have you ever found good Granny and/or Nanny art? I've found great art of pretty much everyone else out there, between fan and pro, but not a single one that really looks like the Witches to me. But you've clearly delved much more deeply into Discworld art than I have.

Date: 2015-10-04 21:23 (UTC)The official guide looks quite nice. Better than a group of lists. Too bad it's completed. :(
Bingeley-Bingeley-Birthday
He looks a bit like Rupert Graves (or is it just me?). I might have a new headcanon. It might last for a while.
French editions’ of Discworld cover art by Marc Simonetti.
*is in love* "The colour of magic" <3 "A hat full of sky"! "Soul music" :D "Small gods"! "Moving pictures"! Why aren't they official covers in Poland again?
The minature library is incredible. I <3 Ankh-Morpork, said no one ever ;)

Date: 2015-10-04 23:22 (UTC)About the witches, hmm, if we're speaking less Kidby-ish style, how about Sandy Nightingale (http://sandynightingale.com/terry-pratchett-calendars/)? Here (http://thegreatll.tumblr.com/post/52940837938/sandy-nightingale-the-witches-specifically-esme) they have it bigger, though only one pic. There's also Théophile Peuplier's Nanny (http://www.vademecum-dm.com/galeries/theophile-peuplier/theophile-peuplier/nounou.html) and Granny (http://www.vademecum-dm.com/galeries/theophile-peuplier/theophile-peuplier/meme.html). But they're rather less in my taste, as I'm happy with Kidby enough, so I don't know how you find these. :)

Date: 2015-10-04 23:33 (UTC)Don't even tell me...
He looks a bit like Rupert Graves (or is it just me?).
Maybe, I don't really know him. :) (Though I apparently have seen at least one of his movies.)
Why aren't they official covers in Poland again?
Because they'd be butchered anyway as Kidby most of times is. :P And it seems Prószyński thinks people won't recognize older ones if there is anything other than Kirby on them... And that's why I have to own two ugliest editions of Good Omens that exist. Then again, for some reason there's much competition on this... Discworld is much more lucky.
I <3 Ankh-Morpork, said no one ever ;)
Twoflower certainly did. Repeatedly. ;D

Date: 2015-10-05 08:55 (UTC)I love the first Ankh-Morpork picture. The colours in particular are wonderful.
I wasn't initially thrilled by TerminAitor and then I found the Feathery Dragon (nothing to do with Pratchett) and have fallen in love.
Dijabringabeeralong Pub combined Pratchett with memories of my trip to Australia and I could look at it for a long time.
Like you, I would like a whole comic illustrated by disasterscenario
I looked at the Marc Simonetti pictures with interest but was not totally hooked until I found his Game of Thrones illustrations.
The Stephen Player board game is sadly too expensive to contemplate and even the later one (Witches) is beyond my means and in any case is not quite as appealing.
I love the Emporium and now have an ambition to visit. It is possible, I think/hope.
The miniatures are fantastic - I have a friend who makes that kind of thing and I am constantly in awe.
The Peuplier witches are to my taste so thank you for those!!
Yes, he looks like Rupert Graves. That's a kind of crossover - Lestrade in Sherlock.
Stupid LJ throws the viewer/reader back to at least three posts ago when returning from a viewing - either in your journal, or on my f'list page. It made for a longer trip than I expected but it was worthwhile. All those highways and byways you take us down!! All those discoveries!!
(And why, oh why, does Flickr make it impossible to return to where you started??)
I have commented where appropriate on DA - though some of the pictures are so old the artists might be surprised to get a new comment! I have bookmarked lots of stuff to go back to and enjoy all over again.
Thank you so much.
(If you're interested, the gold hand in my icon, which I thought looked vaguely Ankh-Morporkish, is in Ciudad Rodrigo, in North West Spain - not in a museum, though the whole town is like a museum - just hanging there on a front door.)

Date: 2015-10-05 15:41 (UTC)V for Vendetta, possibly? I haven't seen that. To me, he's just one of these actors who suddenly appear on screen, playing supporting characters :)
Twoflower certainly did. Repeatedly.
Good point ;)

Not really my favourite style, but I keep it at hand for its originality and technic quality, and I thought maybe someone would like it better than me. Nice to know it at least partially worked.

They should give him/her the job on official comics instead of what we get... I would totally buy it.
I love the Emporium and now have an ambition to visit. It is possible, I think/hope.
If you do, I'm certainly not the only who wants a report!
The Peuplier witches are to my taste so thank you for those!!
Heh, I should have made the entry much longer. Then again, he's not really to my own taste, so that's why I haven't included him in the first place.
All those highways and byways you take us down!! All those discoveries!!
Heh, maybe LJ should make it an option, "Throw My Readers Back". *g* Nah, I wouldn't be that cruel.
(And why, oh why, does Flickr make it impossible to return to where you started??)
*shrugs* Those brilliant ideas developers have about how their sites should work...
though some of the pictures are so old the artists might be surprised to get a new comment!
Even better! I don't know about others, but I like to get feedback on old pieces. It means someone had to search for it, and therefore is really interested, instead of just commenting/faving what they saw at the moment they happened to come to dA this day...
If you're interested, the gold hand in my icon
I was indeed! I like how finely made it is, so precise and delicate.
The pleasure is mine. Thank you for coming and sparing your time for a detailed comment!

Glad you liked my choices! :)
