Supernatural 10.20 Angel Heart (eng)

Spoilers, obviously.

Dozen episodes ago I’d be happy to go back to the Novaks, but after 10.09 The Thing We Left Behind I have them up to here. It means the episode must have been pretty good, if I found it not bad. Nicely solved with Claire. Poor Jody. *g* Claire + the-might-have-been-vampiresse = two possible outcoms: war or pact. Both cases bode not exactly easy life for Jody. (By the way, must really everyone encountering Sam & Dean more than once or twice get infected with hunting? Winchesters are worse than influenza…) Also, best end for Amelia (sniff). But is it the real Jimmy? Then it either means they’re soulmates (hey, that’d be the second confirmed pair in the canon), or that Hannah made big changes in the heavenly business.

Anyway, I’m in my heaven too. Not only that they still haven’t spoiled Dean yet *crosses thumbs nervously* but Jensen for approximately four last episodes, too, has stopped overloading pathos and look! didn’t I tell he can be really good?

Hey, Cas, listen. What you’re doing for Claire and helping her find her mom, it’s good. It’s a good thing.
But?

Castiel gets better with this. Though I’m not sure whether it’s people skills or just Dean skills. *g*

You came all this way just to tell her off?
Damn good question, Sam. I was bewildered about this, too. I half expected/feared that she’d still go for it instead hugging Amelia…

Wait, why am I genius?
Duh, I have no idea as well. Did it really need a round of golf and a sudden illumination to guess that such marks could mean something around the blade?

Oh, purrr! Some decent villain at last, cause in this season it’s been mostly some sloppy noodles or greasy maggots (sit straight when I’m talking about you, Sinclair) or overdone caricatures at best. With an anxious awareness that I risk my life against most of the fandom I must nevertheless note down that there are moments Tamiel has the most gorgeous voice in the all canon. The sort suitable for much bigger screens and budgets with New Zealand locations in the background. This time I’d rather put a sound clip here in place of a pic. Why did he have to die, sniff? He’d be of good use for a whole season, he got wasted as a MotW.

Castiel, however, is not useful anymore for anything besides wandering about the screen to and fro. Freshly charged up and he can’t take on a single angel, together with two Winchesters, though he used to off three at once five seasons ago?

Sam… *sigh* …you know what I think on folks not turning off their mobiles in theatres? The same what I think on folks carrying their mobiles not turned off while pussyfooting. The difference is the cosmic justice gets the latter ones. Which means the cosmic justice has just made my inventory of Sam Winchester Tied To Things not complete anymore. Not that I had any delusions about it staying so for long… For the science’s sake it should be noted down that this time the thing is a chair again. For the eighteenth time.

Our path… it’s not a long life.
I don’t know. You seem pretty old.

I’d never thought it’ll be Claire who takes the episode’s trophy for best lines. Admittedly, Dean takes them on the chin with dignity, poor thing. *g*

I think he's getting used to it by now. Kids have been saying it to him since at least two years ago LOL

I agree about Cas' incompetence :P I loved Sam looking the angel in the eye despite having a sword pointed at him. I think I'd go cross-eyed LOL

What is alarming, it's been saying by older and older kids. Now verging on "not even kids anymore". *g*

I agree about Cas' incompetence :P
What happened to Castiel who used to save the day for the Winchesters getting a solid thrashing... *sigh*

For a Novaks-centric episode, I quite liked this one! (And does this mean you think that Sam and Dean are canonically soulmates? Because that would make me very happy.)

For a while there, when Claire and Amelia reunited, I was thinking they might become the new Jo and Ellen. Guess that wasn't meant to be. With all of the show's emphasis on family though I think that any supporting characters should fit into that theme somehow in order to be successful. The reason characters such as Jody and Charlie work so well for me (well, other than the fact that I love having recurring female characters) is that Sam and Dean are so obviously fond of them and consider them family. I guess Claire worked well for me in this episode because she had some really good scenes with both Sam and Dean. Felt more organic and connected to the heart of the show, somehow.

Exactly. Funny how we all say it about this episode. *g*

And does this mean you think that Sam and Dean are canonically soulmates? Because that would make me very happy.
Of course I do think it!
1. If soulmate is a thing in SPN, they are a pair if ever was one. I mean, come on, the only non-canonical thing that Wincest adds is the erotic component, because everything else is there already. Even marital arguments (http://40.media.tumblr.com/b0198061f8dec0bcf6a44c722f23f0bb/tumblr_nn5jfd8sVf1tysmwmo1_500.jpg). *g* At the end of day they always come back to each other, and their strongest feelings are for the other one, be it love or hate and everything between. If SPN was a planetary system, it would be one with two stars, running around each other, and everything else around both of them.
2. Isn't it explicitly said in the canon? In 5.16 Dark Side of the Moon Ash says "A few people share, special cases. ... Like soul-mates." Unless we think they could enter each other memories only cause Zachariah exceptionally made it this way, and it was a one-time thing, I think we can take it as a canonical statement.
3. Which is not the case and we can, because #1 *g*

Actually I wouldn't even want it. :( There's no Ellen as Ellen was... Amelia? Nah, nope, thanks. Rest in peace. Or rather live in peace with Jimmy.

is that Sam and Dean are so obviously fond of them and consider them family.
Also, I love when they go into 'Yes, Ma'am' mode. *g* Ellen was excellent in sparking this in them, and Sheriff!Jody has it at times, too.

I guess Claire worked well for me in this episode because she had some really good scenes with both Sam and Dean.
Yeah, the less I'm-so-teenage-and-so-mutinous, the better. I liked the golf scene, and the talk with Sam in the motel wasn't bad, too.

ETA
BTW I'm still happy as a box of catnip and kittens that Tamiel's actor was also in "Curse of the Black Pearl", yay. ^^ That makes already two PotC actors, with Kevin McNally.

At the risk of sounding like a hopelessly broken record, I'll say it yet again: you. are. the. best!

If SPN was a planetary system, it would be one with two stars, running around each other, and everything else around both of them.

Yes! Yesyesyesyesyes. (What Ash said is totally canon, but I can see why people not inclined to accept it might be able to find other ways to interpret it. Ways that would be completely wrong, if you ask me, but anyway. *g*)

LOL @ the marital argument. And as per Zachariah, they're even erotically codependent! But seriously, the erotic element is only a small blip on the radar for me in terms of the bond between Sam and Dean. It's the "everything else that is there already" on the show that keeps me so invested in them.

I agree, no one can really replace Ellen and Jo. :-/ But it would've been nice, and it would've fit the theme of the show too. Family and all that. Crowley and Rowena certainly don't endorse that aspect of the show, lol.

the less I'm-so-teenage-and-so-mutinous, the better.

Absolutely. This is why I watch shows for grown-ups. ;-) And I'm cautiously excited about her going to Jody's, too.

I am head-desking so hard about not bothering to check up on why that actor looked so familiar! (It's not like I have every scene of CotBP burnt into my brain, heh.) And I've always been thrilled to BITS about Frank. He even seems like a contemporary reincarnation of Gibbs at times (and there was no body, so I refuse to believe that Frank is dead). (Not that I've spent any time contemplating modern versions of the PotC cast wandering around in SPN 'verse, or anything like that.)

*blushes fervently and curls up into a fluffy ball*

I can see why people not inclined to accept it might be able to find other ways to interpret it.
I'm surprised, though. Wincest or even non-canonical pairings in general, yeah, I totally get why someone can have a problem with this. Myself I have a huge problem with Weecest *twitch*, a little less huge one with teen!Wincest, and regardless of that I won't touch with a mile long pole anything having John and Wincest in one fic, in any shape or form. (This meaning also your BigBang, I'm terribly sorry. Though I'm curious of the art.) But this? Soulmate thing? What is not to accept in it? It's not even big deal, with calling it 'soulmates' we didn't get anything that wasn't there before, that's just telling "they are the most important person ever to each other, so much that even the universe itself recognizes it" in one word, nothing more. Or maybe people think it is big deal after all, some canonic wink toward Wincest or whatnot? Sure, one can take it this way, why not, but it's no more or less justified than anything else taken for Wincest fuel in the canon.

Ways that would be completely wrong, if you ask me, but anyway. *g*
Nononono! You can't just leave me like this and go away. Now I'm curious! :>

It's the "everything else that is there already" on the show that keeps me so invested in them.
This! Also, come on, this is what makes people want to add the erotic element in the first place, more than the Winchesters' looks. Therefore, the Winchesters without Wincest are perfectly possible (and obvious; it's canon after all), but not the other way around - there's no Wincest with erotic element but without the 'everything else'. (I have a private theory that fandom - any fandom - make mostly people that are story-sexual, so to speak. It's the involvement into a character that sparks it for them, not just any pretty body with no name. In fact, a name and personality matters for story-sexual attraction more than looks or lack of thereof. I'm quite much this way myself, though I lack the typical fannish ship-everything-everytime mindset. And now, once I wrote it, I have this dreadful feeling someone will accidentally find it and run away with this, to make another fancy 'sexuality' on Tumblr, argh... Some people these days don't get anymore what figure of speech is, tell ya. *grumbles*)

Crowley and Rowena certainly don't endorse that aspect of the show, lol.
Yeah. Family. Try again, the show. *g* Though this way we got a more developed definition of family according to Dean (don't end with blood, and don't start either; people who honestly care), which I liked.

And I'm cautiously excited about her going to Jody's, too.
Claire and the (not)vampire girl. This means either war or best buddies, and Jody is poor in either case. :))) I came across a fan-made project of Jody & Donna girls shelter spin-off recently, and I haven't kept a link, silly me, maybe you'd be interested... :(

I am head-desking so hard about not bothering to check up on why that actor looked so familiar! (It's not like I have every scene of CotBP burnt into my brain, heh.)
Hey, who says I recognized him while watching either. *g* Anyway, there wasn't much of him visible from under the make up and all in PotC. Not to mention his biggest scene had also Jack Sparrow in it, so... ^^

I must confess I didn't like Frank that much, and while I think his plotline was rather inexplicably cut than properly finished, I'm not really keen on seeing him again. I'll stay with Gibbs. :)
