aletheiafelinea: moving gif; a pencil drawing of a human eye shutting and then opening as a cat eye that shuts to open as the human one again, the cycle repeats endlessly (Default)

Photos: a non-Christmas one

At least I think there’s nothing Christmasy in it. Then again, it has needles. :]

Last photo this year, though actually it’s months old. I still hadn’t time to finish and post it. It was taken on 26 July 2015 in my home. Meet stapelia aka carrion flower. Supposed to be pollinated by flies, and that’s why it looks like a bristly roadkill. :3

As I said, not very Christmasy, unless we talk Hogfather. So, Hogfathery greetings for the last days of 2015! :)

Bristly roadkill! XD

That is a spectacularly scary flower, yay!

I assure it's cute. Just doesn't like petting. XD

Does it also smell like carrion or is that some other flower? It's actually quite beautiful in a sinister kind of way.

And yes, Hogfathery greetings.

I wouldn't say it does, but the smell is definitely unpleasant. Not very sharp at first impression, but gradually pervasive enough to make you glad to end the photosession and put the pot back to its place. And yes, sinister! It may be not commonly pretty, but it's definitely interesting.

Definitely an unusual looking flower! And wonderfully photographed:D

Double thanks from the flower and the photographer! ;)

Haaah, my mom used to have this ~bristly roadkill~ on her windowstill some years ago, and in truth the spikes are the softest! :D

Yeah, not really needle-like, not like some really nasty cacti, but still making you cautious around it, sort like shredded glass fiber. At least ours is like this. :)

That's really gorgeous, in a strange way.

How big is it?

[identity profile] aletheiafelinea.livejournal.com 2015-12-30 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The photo makes it much bigger. The real thing was somewhere between 5-7 cm / 2-3 inches across, I think. :) These green stalks are more or less a finger thick.
