FICS

Dawn Summons by FlorentineQuill
~500; Gen; G; Diaval, Maleficent
Author’s summary: Diaval is summoned early in the morning for one of his first reports.
My two cents: Just a nice vignette. Can be read as a standalone, but is the first of a series turning later into Maleval.

Transubstantiation by meretricula
~3,400; Maleval; G; Maleficent, Diaval, Aurora
Author’s summary: After all the dust settles, Diaval seems to be suffering from a shape-changing crisis. Maleficent is reluctantly dragged along for the ride.
My two cents: A relatively thoughtful piece written in a crisp, matter-of-fact, and yet imaginative style.

The Seventh Raven by corvusTempus
Urban Magic/Maleficent; ~17,800; Gen with a little of Matthew/Diaval; Teen and up; Matthew Swift, Diaval, Penny Ngwenya, Kelly Shiring, Aurora, Maleficent
My two cents: An extra raven appears in the Tower, and since no one knows what to think about it, this must be a job for Midnight Mayor. Not bad overall, and really good in some details, some of them being a proper tuning into the life-is-magic idea of UM. Also, it has an actual plot and decent style.

I saw this film in Wales in late August. I quite liked it but I haven't looked for fic. I was intrigued by the art. I like the first one best, though I also like the dragon one, and the finished version by Vincent Vernacatola. Thank you for all the links!

I'd say fics are a little disappointing en masse, perhaps the fandom needs a little more time to, you know, go beyond two or three tropes or at least make something really interesting with them...

I found the movie itself not bad, though not really among greatest. If you want my detailed opinion, I wrote about it here (http://aletheiafelinea.livejournal.com/119702.html).

(Whoa, a gorgeous icon you're wearing this time!)

My daughter made the icon for me, and no, I don't know anything about what she used! Just that she is totally into dragons!!

I have (now) read your review of the film - not sure why I missed it first time except it was probably while I was travelling to Portugual. Anyway, I agree with everything you say but it whiled away a rainy afternoon and grandsom liked it. I was happy enough but I wouldn't watch it again. I did like the twist of the true kiss - I didn't expect that from Disney!

Same here, I think. Though I like a nice fanart when I come upon it.

Yes. Generally I appreciate good twists in plots. This was a case of fantasy which plot is its strongest point; pretty rare thing, come to think of it.
